Bespoke Wedding Hats Designed Just for You

All designs can be made in colours to suit your outfit perfectly

A bespoke wedding hat is a one-of-a-kind headpiece designed and handcrafted specifically for you. Every hat in this portfolio can be made to order in colours that complement your outfit, so your look is perfectly coordinated in person and in photographs. During a free consultation at my Rose Garden Studio in Winchester, I guide you through shapes, colours, and trims until we find a design that feels uniquely yours.

Most clients use this gallery as a starting point - a brim from one design, a bow from another, a flower or feather detail from a third - and I blend those elements into something completely individual. Scroll through for inspiration, then book a free consultation to start designing your hat.

Every hat in this gallery can be recreated in colours to suit your outfit. I offer over 70 bespoke colours, and during your consultation, we can compare fabrics and hat materials under natural light to find the shades that work most beautifully with your dress, shoes, and accessories.

How Much Does a Bespoke Wedding Hat Cost?

Bespoke hats are individually priced because every design is different - the cost depends on the style, the complexity of the shape, and the materials and trims you choose. All consultations are free of charge, and I am always happy to discuss your budget openly so there are never any surprises. I ask for a 50% deposit when you place your order, with the balance due when you collect your finished hat. To find out what the process involves, take a look at my guide to buying a bespoke wedding hat, or simply get in touch, and I would love to hear about your plans.

What Makes a Bespoke Hat Different from Buying Ready-to-Wear?

A bespoke hat is designed from scratch around you - your outfit colours, your face shape, your personal style, and the scale of the wedding venue. During a free consultation lasting about an hour at my Rose Garden Studio in Winchester, we explore shapes, try on different styles - perching hats, saucers, wide brims, pillboxes, and hatinators - and refine the colours and trims until a favoured design emerges. I then handcraft your hat in my studio, paying close attention to proportion, balance, and the small details that really matter in photographs, such as neat bindings, balanced trims, and a flattering silhouette from every angle.

Most bespoke commissions take between six and ten weeks from consultation to collection, allowing time to source materials, create the design, and ensure every detail is right. I work with the finest millinery materials - sinamay, buntal and silk - and add finishing details such as handmade silk roses crafted petal by petal, sculptural bows, hand-curled feathers, and crystals.

A Ready-to-Wear hat, by contrast, is a finished one-of-a-kind design available for immediate purchase from my online collection. I never make the same hat twice, so every piece is still unique - but it is ready to dispatch rather than made to your brief. If your wedding date is approaching and there is not enough time for a bespoke commission, Ready-to-Wear can be a wonderful solution.

"I never want a client to feel she has to compromise. A bespoke hat should reflect who she is - her colours, her personality, her sense of style - not simply what happens to be available on a shelf. That is why I start every commission with a conversation, not a catalogue."
- Simon Meanwell-Ralph, Founder of Marvellous Millinery (est. 2011)

I have been creating bespoke wedding hats from my Winchester studio since 2011, working with clients across Hampshire and the surrounding counties. You can read what my customers say about their experience, or browse my gallery of happy customers wearing their finished hats at weddings.

What Should I Do Next?

If a design in this portfolio has caught your eye, or you have ideas of your own, here is how to take things forward.

Find out how the bespoke process works

From your first free consultation to the moment you collect your finished hat, every stage has been carefully thought through to make the experience as enjoyable and stress-free as possible. My guide to the bespoke consultation process walks you through what to expect, what to bring, and how long each stage takes, so nothing comes as a surprise.

Need something sooner?

If your wedding date is closer than you thought, or you simply prefer to see a finished hat before you commit, my Ready-to-Wear collection offers one-of-a-kind designs available for immediate dispatch. I never make the same hat twice, so every piece in the online shop is a unique original - and many can still be colour-matched with a silk stole or pearl jewellery to complete your look.

Complete your look

A hat always looks its best when the whole outfit has been thought through together. I offer matching accessories - including silk stoles, clutch bags, and pearl jewellery - all colour-matched to your hat, so that everything you wear on the day works as a single, harmonious ensemble rather than a collection of separate pieces.

Explore colours before your consultation

Colour is one of the most exciting parts of the bespoke process, and it is worth exploring before we meet. I work with over 70 shades of sinamay alone, alongside a wide range of silk and other materials, so the possibilities are genuinely vast. Browse my colour chart to see the full range, or read my colour-matching advice for practical guidance on how to coordinate your hat with your dress, shoes, and bag.

Nothing reassures quite like hearing from someone who has been through the process before you. Browse my photo gallery of happy customers wearing their finished hats at weddings across Hampshire and the south of England, or read their reviews to get a sense of what working with me is really like.

Why choose Marvellous Millinery?

Choosing the right milliner is about more than the hat itself - it is about trusting someone with one of the most important days of your life. I have been making bespoke wedding hats from my Rose Garden Studio in Winchester since 2011, and I understand how much the details matter. Frequently Asked Questions

Can you make any of these hats in my colours?

Yes. Every design you see in this portfolio can be made to order in colours chosen to complement your outfit beautifully, so your hat looks harmonious in real life and in photographs. I can select the most flattering tones from your dress (and, if you wish, your shoes and bag) and build a colour story that feels truly “you”.

Do I have to choose one hat exactly as shown, or can we mix and match details?

You can absolutely treat this gallery as a starting point. If you prefer a brim on one design, a bow on another, and a flower or feather detail elsewhere, I can blend those elements to create a bespoke wedding hat that feels uniquely yours. That way, you keep the look you admire, but you still wear something no one else at the wedding will have.

How do I book a free bespoke consultation at your millinery studio?

I only work by pre-booked appointment, so I can give you my full attention in my Winchester studio. The simplest next step is to telephone me, and we can pop something in the diary for you. I'll ask about the wedding date, your outfit colour(s), and the shapes you feel drawn to (even if you are not sure yet).

What should I bring so we can colour-match properly?

In an ideal world, bringing along your dress and shoes is perfect, but a clear idea of the shoes you plan to wear is also helpful if you are still undecided. If you are wearing a jacket, pashmina, coloured jewellery, or a particular handbag, please bring everything that completes your outfit so we can ensure every detail in your hat is perfect for you.

Will my hat feel secure and comfortable all day?

Yes, comfort and balance matter just as much as style. I will position and secure your hat so it sits securely (so you can greet people, pose for photos, and enjoy the day without fuss). If you wear glasses or prefer a lighter feel, please let me know, and I will design with that in mind.

Some images look like lifestyle scenes. Are they real weddings?

The hat design shown is always a genuine Marvellous Millinery sample, made by me in my studio, and shown to help you picture the overall look. Occasionally, the model and setting are AI-generated for inspiration, and I mark those images accordingly on each page.

Do you create wedding hats for LGBTQ+ weddings and ceremonies?

Yes. I welcome everyone, including LGBTQ+ weddings and ceremonies, and will always use the name and pronouns you provide. Your consultation is private and one-to-one, though you’re welcome to bring a friend or relative if you wish. The studio is fairly compact, so I suggest a maximum of 3 people (plus me). Whether you are getting married yourself, a parent, or a guest, I will help you choose a ready-to-wear piece or design a bespoke hat that perfectly flatters you and complements your outfit and the occasion through careful proportion and precise colour-matching. If you need any adjustments for comfort or accessibility, please let me know in advance, and I’ll do my best to accommodate.
