Bespoke Hat FAQs My Bespoke Process in Winchester I explain how my bespoke process works from your one-to-one consultation through to colour matching, timescales and collection. These FAQs help you understand what happens at each step so you can commission a hat that suits you, your outfit and the wedding setting perfectly. I make bespoke wedding hats in my Winchester studio and guide you calmly from first try-on to final fitting. Next steps: If you’re considering commissioning a hat, start with my Bespoke Consultation Process so you know exactly what to expect. Then explore my Bespoke Hat Portfolio and use Colour and Outfit Matching to feel confident with your outfit. For general guidance, see Wedding Hat Advice . If time is tight, browse Ready-to-Wear . General FAQs Bespoke Process FAQs Ready-to-Wear FAQs Hat Etiquette & Traditions FAQs Visiting Winchester FAQs Glossary of Terms FAQs About Simon FAQs What does “bespoke” mean at Marvellous Millinery? Bespoke means that I design your hat just for you, considering your outfit, proportions, personality, and your role at the occasion. I guide you through each decision in a private consultation, so your hat feels uniquely made for you. Why order a bespoke hat? A bespoke hat gives you a truly individual design for a once-in-a-lifetime occasion, especially if you are the Mother of the Bride or Mother of the Groom. Customers often tell me that they have found it hard to achieve the right balance of style, colour and confidence from a limited off-the-peg High Street selection, whereas a visit to my studio lets us create something together that complements your outfit beautifully and feels uniquely made for you - so you can feel confident that no one else will be wearing the same hat. What happens at a bespoke consultation? I begin with a relaxed, creative appointment at my Rose Garden Studio, where we explore shapes, sizes, colours, trims and finishes together. We’ll refine what suits you, agree on the design, and make sure it feels right for your occasion. To help me colour-match accurately, please bring your outfit or a fabric swatch, and the shoes you plan to wear. Consultations usually last about an hour, and I can see customers seven days a week to fit in with your diary. If you’d like the full step-by-step overview, please read my Bespoke Consultation Process . Are consultations free of charge? Yes. All consultations at my Winchester Millinery Studio are free of charge when either considering ordering a Bespoke hat from me or looking at purchasing a Ready-to-Wear piece. How long does the bespoke process take? Most bespoke commissions take between six and ten weeks. That timeframe allows me to slot you into my making schedule, source original materials, create your design and hand-finish it properly. Please may I suggest booking as early as possible, particularly in spring and summer when demand is at its highest. For planning tips and a sensible timeline, see my Wedding Hat Advice . What should I bring to my consultation? Please bring your outfit (or a fabric swatch), plus your shoes and bag if you have them, as seeing the actual fabrics ‘in the flesh’ is very helpful. Information about the plans for the day's arrangements and ideas for your hairstyle can be useful too. If you wear glasses, please bring them along so we can agree on a flattering design that feels both secure and comfortable. Do you provide a colour co-ordinating service? Yes. Colour co-ordination is central to what I do, and I help you select the right tones across bases, trims and fabrics. Please bring your outfit or a fabric sample so I can compare colours accurately under natural light in the studio. For more guidance on coordinating tones across your outfit, see Colour & Outfit Matching . Can you include fabric remnants from my dressmaker? Often, yes. If your dressmaker can spare a small piece of fabric, I may be able to incorporate it into trims or a hand-covered detail so the hat and outfit harmonise beautifully. I’ll advise what’s feasible once I’ve seen the fabric and design. I am happy to liaise directly with your dressmaker regarding fabric quantities and timings, if you wish me to. Using this service brings your outfit together perfectly because it uses the same material/dye batch, etc. Having said that, I also have a very wide variety of silk, organza, and velvet colour samples in my studio, so that the flowers and trims can be made from fabric I supply to decorate your new hat. My outfit colour is tricky, can you match it? Yes, and this is where a bespoke approach helps enormously. Many hats rely on layering multiple tones to create either a strong, uniform shade or a more nuanced “in between” colour, and I also use shade cards and a wide range of silks and fabrics to refine the match. If your shoes and dress are different colours, we can choose a hat shade palette that ties your outfit together, rather than focusing on a single colour. You may also find Colour & Outfit Matching helpful for choosing a flattering shade palette. How much is the deposit for a bespoke commission? I ask for a 50% deposit at the time you place your order. This lets me secure the allocated making time in my studio and obtain the raw materials I need for your commission. You may pay by Visa, MasterCard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, online banking transfer, cheque or cash. Are Bespoke Orders changeable or returnable? No. Because I make everything specifically for you, I do not offer returns or exchanges once the deposit has been paid and the order has begun, or after the order is completed. Your hat is made to your unique specification, so it would not suit another wearer. How is the price of a bespoke hat calculated? I calculate the price individually, based on the size and complexity of the design, the materials and trims, and the hours of hand-making required in my Winchester studio. Every sample I have is clearly labelled with the price that it would be if you were to order that exact design ‘as is’, but in your bespoke colour choices. I discuss additional options clearly during our consultation, so you can choose a direction that suits your budget. The price confirmed when you place your order is the total cost - there will be no hidden extra charges when you come to collect. Wedding Hat Etiquette FAQs Traditions, Rules and Modern Advice I share clear, traditional guidance on wedding hat etiquette, including what’s appropriate, when to remove your hat, and how to choose a flattering style that feels correct for the occasion. If you’re the Mother of the Bride or Mother of the Groom, these FAQs will help you feel elegant, assured and comfortably “right” on the day. I also cover practical do’s and don’ts that make wearing a hat easy. Next steps: For practical guidance on what suits you and your outfit, see Wedding Hat Advice and Colour and Outfit Matching . If you’re unsure what’s appropriate for your event, please use my Contact page . General FAQs Bespoke Process FAQs Ready-to-Wear FAQs Hat Etiquette & Traditions FAQs Visiting Winchester FAQs Glossary of Terms FAQs About Simon FAQs Why do British women wear hats to weddings and events? Hats are part of a long-standing British tradition, especially for formal daytime occasions. A well-chosen hat finishes an outfit beautifully and adds that polished, timeless sense of occasion in photographs. When should wedding guests wear hats? Hats suit daytime weddings, garden ceremonies and church services particularly well, and they are especially popular for close family and top-table guests. Evening receptions tend to be more relaxed, so many guests remove hats after the wedding breakfast or before dancing begins. How long should I keep my hat on at a wedding? Tradition suggests that ladies keep their hats on for the formal parts of the day, including the ceremony, photographs, toasts and speeches. Later on, as the reception becomes more relaxed, guests often remove hats - although as a general rule not before the Mother of the Bride removes hers first! The aim is to feel confident, comfortable and fully present for the celebration. How do I choose the right colour for my hat? Start with a colour that flatters your complexion and complements your outfit. Neutrals can feel elegant and versatile, while bolder shades create a striking statement. Natural daylight is always best for judging colour harmony. For a simple, step-by-step approach, see Colour & Outfit Matching . I am a petite lady, can you suggest hats that might be suitable for me? Absolutely! For petite ladies, it’s important to choose a hat that complements your proportions without overwhelming your frame. Avoid Oversized Brims: Opt for medium or smaller brims to maintain balance and elegance. Perching Hats: These stylish, smaller designs add sophistication without overpowering your look. I have lots of samples like this in my Bespoke Hats Portfolio , and nearly all the hats in my Ready to Wear Hat Shop are in this style. Vertical Accents: Feathers or trims with height create the illusion of added height. Asymmetry: Asymmetrical styles draw the eye upward and balance proportions. Tailored Fit: A neatly fitted hat ensures comfort and avoids looking oversized. The key is: Choosing a hat that enhances your beauty, suits your style and feels comfortable. Together, we’ll find the perfect piece to make you feel fabulous on the big day! How do I coordinate my hat with my outfit? Choose one or two details from your outfit and echo them in the hat, rather than matching everything exactly. This approach looks refined and intentional, and it avoids the “overmatched” look. How can I feel more confident wearing a hat? Confidence usually comes as soon as you find a shape that flatters you and you become familiar with how it balances. Once it feels comfortable, it stops feeling like “a hat” and starts becoming ‘part of you’. Should the Mother of the Bride always wear a hat? There is no rule that says she must, but many Mothers of the Bride choose to because it feels fitting for the role and the formality of the occasion. A thoughtfully chosen hat completes the outfit and can feel wonderfully celebratory. If you decide to wear one, I would be delighted to help you find the piece that’s right for you. You might find the Hat Etiquette and Traditions page useful to read Can I re-wear a hat for different occasions? Absolutely. A well-chosen hat can work with a variety of outfits over time, so you can enjoy wearing it again for other weddings and special events. Are hats required for Royal Ascot? Yes, in certain enclosures, such as the Royal Enclosure. I design hats with those dress code standards in mind while still keeping comfort and creativity at the heart of the piece. What is the correct side to tilt a hat? Traditionally, ladies tilt their hats slightly to the right, framing the face attractively and allowing free movement. This small detail creates balance and helps the hat photograph beautifully. • Perfect Mother of the Bride Hat for a Wedding at Salisbury Cathedral

Designing a bespoke wedding hat for a mother of the bride attending a wedding at Salisbury Cathedral was a truly rewarding experience. The combination of an emerald-green dress, navy accessories, and intricate feather details created a striking, elegant look that perfectly suited the grandeur of the occasion. A Stunning Setting for a Special Occasion I recently had the joy of crafting a unique hat for a mother of the bride attending a wedding at the breathtaking Salisbury Cathedral. This historic venue, with its soaring stone arches and magnificent stained glass windows, provided an enchanting setting for such a special occasion. My client selected an emerald green dress by Suzanna London, a perfect choice for a wedding where rich jewel tones take centre stage. Her vision was clear; she wanted a statement hat that would enhance her ensemble and reflect her personality. A striking green hat adorned with a dramatic cascade of navy feathers makes an elegant, eye-catching statement. A sophisticated emerald green dress by Suzannah London, selected for a wedding to align with the rich jewel tones theme. Two long handlebar moustache feathers were added so that they curled elegantly over the brim. These distinctive feathers, named for their resemblance to the curled ends of a classic handlebar moustache, A Unique and Personalised Wedding Hat Design To complement her outfit, I designed a wide-brimmed hat with an emerald green sinamay base and a matching velour felt crown. A deep navy silk band encircled the crown, tying in with her navy accessories. The standout feature was the striking navy feather embellishment that cascaded down one side, adding volume and drama. To elevate the design further, I incorporated two handlebar moustache feathers, which curled elegantly over the brim. These distinctive feathers, named for their resemblance to the curled ends of a classic handlebar moustache, added movement and refinement to the hat, ensuring it stood out in the most elegant way. Thoughtfully Chosen Accessories Weddings call for carefully selected accessories that create a cohesive look. My client paired her emerald dress with navy shoes and a matching structured handbag. To enhance the overall aesthetic, I designed a cloud of navy feathers that gracefully floated over her right eye, adding drama and highlighting her features. Studies show that accessories can elevate an outfit by up to twenty-five per cent in style impact, and this bespoke creation was no exception. A vibrant green and navy hat is adorned with a handmade double silk bow, featuring a luxurious gilt crystal buckle at its centre. The felt crown complements the elegant design, enhanced by dramatic feathers. Towards the rear of the hat, a handmade double silk bow added another layer of elegance, positioned neatly next to the felt crown. A gilt crystal buckle at the centre of the bow provided a subtle yet luxurious touch, harmonising beautifully with the gold fastenings of her Louis Vuitton handbag. Every detail was carefully considered to ensure a polished, refined look. The Art of Bespoke Millinery Creating bespoke wedding hats requires a deep understanding of personal style and how each element complements the overall outfit. Choosing emerald green was not only a bold statement but also in line with seasonal trends, as deep green shades have become increasingly popular. Selecting the right hat involves balancing colour, texture, and proportion to ensure it enhances rather than overwhelms the final look. A Lasting Impression Looking at the wonderful photographs of that memorable day at Salisbury Cathedral, I take great satisfaction in knowing my design played a part in making my client feel her absolute best. Seeing her confidence and joy as she stood beside her daughter on such a special day was a wonderful reminder of why I love crafting bespoke hats. I graduated with a first-class honours degree in Accessory Design and have spent many years creating hats for family weddings, Ladies Day at Royal Ascot and other special events. I create each piece here in my Winchester studio, using high-quality materials such as sinamay, silk and the finest trims. My aim is always to help my customers feel confident, elegant and beautifully put together for their big day. LinkedIn Sharing this article If you know someone who is beginning their search for a Mother of the Bride or Mother of the Groom hat, please feel free to share this guide. It may help make their preparations that little bit easier. FAQs about Mother of the Bride hats I’ve answered a few of the most common questions below. If you’d like more details about visiting my Winchester studio, bespoke commissions or ready-to-wear hats, you can find further information on my Frequently Asked Questions page. What should I bring to my consultation? Please bring your outfit (or a fabric swatch), shoes and any accessories you plan to wear. Good daylight colour checks are essential, so actual fabric samples are very helpful. Photos of the venue and your hairstyle are useful too. If you wear glasses, bring them. I’ll then discuss colours and styles with you and test proportion and tilt so we can agree on a flattering design that feels secure and comfortable. How far in advance should I order a bespoke hat? Most bespoke commissions take around 6–10 weeks, so it is best to book as soon as you have chosen your dress and shoes and know the wedding date. This allows adequate time for design, fitting, and any matching accessories. During peak wedding and Ascot season, early booking is essential as availability becomes limited. Can you match the colour of my outfit? In many cases, yes. I work with a wide range of sinamay shades, silks and trims, and can blend layers to create subtle, individual tones that sit beautifully with your dress.

  • A Bespoke Picture Wedding Hat in Cornflower and Cerise: A Mother of the Groom Story from My Winchester Studio

Mother of the Groom wearing a bespoke cornflower-and-cerise wedding hat, by Simon at Marvellous Millinery Some commissions stay with me long after the wedding day, and this beautiful picture hat, created late last summer, is one I remember with real fondness. It was designed for a charming Mother of the Groom who wanted something truly special to complement her handmade silk dress. The process began not with the dress itself but with a swatch of exquisite shot silk purchased from Borovick’s Fabrics in Berwick Street, London – a much-loved destination for anyone who values exceptional textiles. She arrived at my Winchester studio with the swatch folded neatly in her handbag, and she also brought something else that proved invaluable: a sketch of her planned dress design. The illustration showed gentle draping, with pleated gathering detailing around the 3/4 length sleeves and the soft v-shaped neckline, giving me early insight into the mood and movement the dress would have. Even before a single stitch of her dress had been sewn, I could already see how her hat needed to respond to those lines. The swatch itself was captivating. It was a beautiful shot silk woven from two contrasting threads – a soft, luminous cornflower blue and a deep, romantic cerise pink. Even in its tiny strip, the silk shimmered as it moved. Her dressmaker later provided me with half a metre of the fabric to use in the hat, which allowed me to achieve a perfect match. Choosing a Timeless Shape for the Wedding Hat During her consultation, we explored several sample styles before she gravitated towards one of my favourite picture-hat designs in my bespoke portfolio (a sample I’d named ‘Oona’). With its graceful east–west brim and flattering line across the face, it’s a shape that offers elegance without heaviness and I’ve learned that variations of this style suits many Mothers of the Bride or Groom beautifully. Once we agreed on the silhouette, I designed an angled crown to give the hat a sense of movement. The dress sketch had already suggested soft folds and gentle fabric detailing, so I knew the hat needed a subtle drape of the silk around the crown to echo her dress. Using the Dress Sketch to Guide the Millinery Because I hadn’t seen the completed dress, the sketch became incredibly helpful in directing the trim. The ruching shown in the drawing inspired me to incorporate a silk drape around the angled crown, mirroring the fluidity and direction of the dress design. Even though the dress itself was still in progress, the harmony between the two pieces began right there. I often find this is exactly how I match a hat to your dress, shoes and jewellery: I look for the lines, proportions and small details first, then echo them quietly in the millinery. I also suggested a particular type of silhouette for the little bow that sits behind the posy of roses, because it features a soft V shape in cross-section, and that shape reflects the shape of her neckline perfectly. Working with Shot Silk: Capturing Light and Texture Shot silk is a delight to handle, and this cornflower-and-cerise colour way was particularly striking. I used much of the half metre to create a carefully tailored bias bind around the brim, allowing the colours to shimmer with every turn of the head. The soft crown drape added depth and texture, gently picking up the movement suggested in the dress sketch. If you are looking for wedding hat advice for a Mother of the Bride or Mother of the Groom, I share more practical guidance in my main advice hub. Just over the right eye, I placed a beautifully crafted cluster of handmade silk roses with matching leaves. Because they were made from the same shot silk as the dress, the roses held the same shifting tones, giving them a wonderful natural radiance. Behind the posy, I shaped an elegant bow made from the same layered sinamay as the body of the hat. Rather than a small decorative touch, this bow was sculpted to create a striking, architectural silhouette, adding lift and balance to the composition without overpowering it. Recreating the Shot-Silk Effect in Sinamay The body of the hat was made from sinamay, so I recreated the beautiful interplay of the silk’s colours by laminating layers: a sheet of cerise sinamay sandwiched between two sheets of cornflower-blue. This approach allowed me to emulate the silk’s movement and depth while still giving the hat the structure and lightness that sinamay provides. My customer chose to highlight the cerise in her accessories, carrying a rich pink clutch bag and wearing matching shoes. This brought the pink undertones of both the hat and the dress fabric to the forefront beautifully. Seeing Everything Come to Life When she returned to collect her finished hat, we placed it gently on her head, and she lifted her chin slightly, and the whole design blossomed into life. It is always a special moment when a client sees her bespoke hat properly for the first time, and this occasion was no exception. As she turned towards the mirror, she smiled and said she felt completely herself in it – elegant, confident, and ready for the day ahead. Then she asked whether my partner would mind taking a photograph of her holding the hatbox before she left. She wanted a little keepsake of the moment, as she had enjoyed the whole process so much. It was a simple request, but a very touching one, and it reminded me how significant these preparations can be for a Mother of the Groom as she looks ahead to such an important family celebration. A joyful moment outside "Marvellous Millinery," as Simon hands over the completed hat to his customer A Beautiful Result on the Day A few days after the wedding, she emailed me the photograph you see above. Standing outdoors in soft late-summer light, she looked poised, relaxed and entirely herself. The hat settled beautifully into her overall look, shimmering just as the silk was meant to shimmer. These are the moments I treasure – seeing a client looking confident, elegant and comfortable, knowing that a hat I created here in Winchester helped her feel her best on such a meaningful day. Working with Dressmaker’s Remnants and Designs I always encourage clients to bring swatches, sketches, or any early notes from their dressmaker. Even the smallest detail can influence the balance, flow and line of a bespoke hat. A remnant of fabric allows me to match colours with exact precision; a sketch reveals the dress’s proportions, movement and personality. And when extra fabric isn’t available, my extensive library of sinamay, silks and organzas gives us tremendous freedom. Laminating sinamay allows me to create unique colours that simply don’t exist on any shade card – particularly useful for complex or unusual fabrics such as shot silks. A Joyful Wedding Hat Commission from Start to Finish This Mother of the Groom commission was an absolute joy. From the first glimpse of that cornflower-and-cerise silk swatch to the finished picture hat with its elegant crown drape and sculptural sinamay bow, every detail came together harmoniously. If you are the Mother of the Bride or Groom and would like a bespoke hat designed especially for your outfit, I would be delighted to welcome you to my Winchester studio. Together we can create something beautifully individual, refined and entirely yours. FAQs What styles of hats suit Mothers of the Bride best? I often suggest percher, pillbox or neat saucer styles as they flatter most face shapes and give a refined, elegant look without overwhelming your outfit. How far in advance should I order a bespoke hat? Most bespoke commissions take 6–10 weeks, so it’s best to book as soon as you’ve chosen your dress and shoes. Can you match the exact colour of my outfit? Yes. I work with a wide range of sinamay shades, silks, and trims, and I can blend layers to create subtle, unique tones that perfectly complement your dress. • Pretty in Pink: Choosing the Perfect Mother of the Bride Hat for Your Wedding Outfit

Your perfect pink look starts with a private consultation at my Rose Garden Studio in Winchester. Let's create something you'll treasure forever. When you begin planning your outfit for your daughter’s or son’s wedding day, colour is often the very first decision you will make. It sets the tone for your entire look and plays a huge part in how confident you feel. Over my years of designing bespoke wedding hats in Winchester, I have noticed that one colour remains a timeless favourite for the Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom - and that colour is pink. If you are wondering, "What colour hat should a Mother of the Bride wear to a wedding at almost any time of the year?", pink is often the perfect answer. It is popular for a whole range of wonderful reasons. Pink offers a beautiful softness and a palette of flattering shades that suit nearly everyone, bringing a healthy, radiant glow to the complexion. In this article, I will guide you through the beautiful spectrum of pinks, explore a little hat history, and explain how we can create a stunning, one-of-a-kind hat that perfectly completes your wedding day look. A Surprising Hat History: The Story of the Colour Pink Before we look at modern wedding elegance, it is fascinating to look back at the history of the colour pink. Today, we often associate pink with femininity, but this was not always the case. Historically, pink was considered a strong, masculine colour. It was primarily used for young boys, viewed as a watered-down version of their fathers' fierce military redcoats. It was not until the 19th century that the roles began to reverse. Queen Victoria, a great setter of trends, made pink the chosen colour for little girls, and over time, it evolved into the elegant, romantic shades we cherish today. Understanding the rich history of fashion and dress codes is something I deeply value, as it adds a wonderful layer of meaning to the traditions we celebrate at modern weddings. From bold magenta to soft blush — I'll help you find the exact shade of pink that makes you look and feel your absolute best on the day. Every hat is made to order in my Winchester studio. Available in hundreds of bespoke colour combinations to perfectly match your outfit. A Natural Match for a Romantic Wedding Day Pink is such a natural 'wedding match'. It evokes feelings of joy, love, and celebration. When you think of a traditional wedding, pink is woven throughout the day - from the 'blushing bride' to the delicate roses and flowers used for the venue decorations, right down to the fluttering petal confetti thrown in celebration outside the church. Wearing pink allows the Mother of the Bride or Mother of the Groom to beautifully echo the romance of the day without overshadowing the bridal party. This blush pink silk rose is made entirely by hand, petal by petal. I can incorporate details like this into your bespoke design — get in touch to start creating yours. Finding Your Flattering Shade of Pink The true beauty of pink lies in its versatility. There is a shade for every skin tone, hair colour, and personal preference. When you visit my Rose Garden Studio in Winchester, Hampshire, I will help you choose the exact tone that makes you look and feel your absolute best. Pinks That Pop If you want to make a confident, vibrant statement, we can look at rich, saturated tones. Shades such as Magenta, Raspberry, and Fuchsia are incredibly striking. They work beautifully for both summer garden parties and crisp winter weddings, offering a joyful burst of colour that photographs exceptionally well. Pinks That Tone For a more classic and harmonious look, mid-tones are a wonderful choice. Pale Pink, Lilac Pink, and Rose Pink offer a gentle elegance. A Mother of the Groom hat in a soft Blush Pink, for example, is wonderfully versatile and pairs beautifully with Navy, Silver, or Charcoal Grey outfits. Pinks That Exude Subtlety If you prefer an understated, highly sophisticated look, subtle pinks are the way forward. Nude Pink, Soft Peach, and Baby Pink offer a delicate whisper of colour. These elegant neutrals are incredibly flattering and provide a wonderfully chic, modern silhouette. The Art of Hat Matching: Styling Your Pink Wedding Hat Once we have found your perfect shade, the next step is deciding how to style it with your outfit. Since establishing Marvellous Millinery in 2011, I have helped countless ladies navigate the sometimes tricky world of colour coordination. There are three beautiful ways I recommend styling your pink hat: The Colour Drench: This is a highly fashionable, elegant approach that matches your hat perfectly to your dress and shoes, creating a seamless 'drench' of pink from head to toe. It creates a taller, very sophisticated silhouette. Complementing with Contrasts: We can use a bright pink hat to add a vibrant pop of colour to a navy or monochrome outfit. The contrast is striking and ensures your hat is the star accessory. Offsetting with Different Shades: We can blend different tones of pink within the hat itself. By using a pale pink base and adding trims in a deeper raspberry or fuchsia, we create depth and offset one shade beautifully against the other. A previous customer's bespoke order in a gorgeous all-pink colourway. This wide-brimmed beauty can be created in any colour combination to complement your outfit perfectly. Contact me to discuss your own design. Bespoke Hat Styles and Exquisite Trims There is a myriad of hat style choices available at Marvellous Millinery, meaning there is truly something for everyone. Whether you feel most comfortable in a dramatic wide brim, an elegant saucer hat, a neat perching pillbox, or a modern hatinator, I design each piece to ensure it is perfectly balanced and light to wear. All my hats are either a full-crown fit or secured with a comfortable headband, hair comb, or elastic, ensuring they stay perfectly in place for all-day wear. What makes a bespoke hat so special is the vast array of trim options available, allowing each piece to be truly unique. I can incorporate luxurious materials such as sinamay, silk, and felt. If you’d like more details about visiting my Winchester studio, bespoke commissions or ready-to-wear hats, you can find further information on my Frequently Asked Questions page. What colour hat could a Mother of the Bride wear? Pink is universally popular for a Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom because it offers flattering, soft shades that suit almost every skin tone and beautifully complement traditional wedding flowers. What should I bring to my consultation? Please bring your outfit (or a fabric swatch), shoes and any accessories you plan to wear. Good daylight colour checks are essential, so the actual fabrics are very helpful. Are bespoke wedding hats comfortable to wear all day? Absolutely. A well-designed bespoke hat is made to be light to wear, perfectly balanced, and securely fastened with a comfortable headband or hair comb, so you can wear it from the morning ceremony through to the evening reception. Can you match the colour of my outfit? In many cases, yes. I work with a wide range of sinamay shades, silks and trims, and can blend layers to create subtle, individual tones that sit beautifully with your dress. Pink is a colour that benefits enormously from this layering approach — the difference between a hat that is simply “pink” and one that has been carefully matched to your outfit’s specific shade is immediately visible. “Look Amazing and Feel Fantastic!” MarvellousMillinery.co.uk
